Long days and pleasant nights. Do good things for other people... spread the positive vibe!

the beach, photography, travel, surfing, capoeira, dancing, massages, jamming, zipping, collecting sunsets, catching sunrises, french pressed coffee, cold beer, collective cooking w friends, hugs, smooches, lip balm, the smell of sticky bumps, the sound of a board being waxed, thinking about waves, bbq popcorn, peanut butter, learning, good conversations, the environment, making a difference, making the drop, percussions, rolling down hills, walling a wave, dancing in the rain, discovering things, being random with a purpose

Show and Tell: Made it to the Main Page!

There is a photo I took of Osot Alcala at Cloud 9 that has been living in the Philippine swellwatch portion of Wetsand. It is one of my favorite photos primarily because Osot looks absolutely relaxed in it. There he is in a perfect standing barrel at one of the most famous right-handers in the country... with zero tension or stress in his body language. For all we know, he could thinking about what to eat at the Boulevard after his session. I love it... one of my favorite chargers completely at ease at his home break.

Anyway, get this. Today I got an email from one of the peeps at Wetsand. He told me they moved my photo to the main page for the month of July!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH! How stoked am I?!!! Lemme tell you, I'm pretty f*cking stoked. :) I am as stoked as Osot is relaxed in that shot. I could do cartwheels right now if my body would only let me. Heehee.

That is all for this session of show and tell. Thank you to Chuck and Paolo!!! And of course to Osot. If he hadn't been...

Family Outing: What Typhoon?

I brought my cousin Katrina with me to LU for the weekend along with Reggae, who hasn't been to the beach in ages. My brother and his wife took her nephews and nieces as well. Super small waves perfect for lessons. Great weather -- not too hot, not too rainy -- gave us the distinct impression that there was no typhoon ravaging the country.

Hello, Surf Love

As I decided to be the event's door bitch all night, I didn't really get around to taking a lot of photos. And when I did wander away from my station, it was to take snaps with my N95 -- whose built in camera is not made for low light situations. Hehe.

My personal thanks go to Sadri, Sid, Aids, Isa and Dom who sat with me by the door and helped me sell tickets. Manang Mia was excellent as well in stopping would-be gatecrashers. :) And of course, thanks din to new MSA member Kiddo who allowed us to rope him into co-hosting the event.

Big big big thanks to Stoked, Fluid Surf, Aloe Gator, Fiveforty Surf Co, Nomad and Kampai for helping us make this happen.

The Jeepney Magazine | Home

The Jeepney Magazine sells for a street price of one hundred pesos. The vendor receives fifty pesos. Twenty-five pesos goes toward printing and twenty-five pesos are used for production costs, vendor training and vendor oversight. It is our goal for each of our vendors to sell a minimum of ten magazines a day, giving them an income exceeding, by forty percent, the Philippine minimum

Popping the Cemento Cherry

I have always maintained that there is magic in Baler, Aurora. There is a powerful, mystical magic that permeates not only the Sierra Madres but the town of Baler itself. If you respect it and honor it, it will reward you.

This has been proven to me time and time again, one surf trip after another. Never more so than our last trip there when, after almost seven years of just watching from the platform, I finally paddled out to Cementos. Not just paddled out but actually caught my first Cemento wave. Not only caught my first ride but actually caught my first ride on the first wave that I paddled for.

It wasn't epic. I never would've paddled out if it had been.
It wasn't a fun size. I would have actually liked it to have been a bit bigger on the smaller sets.
And yet, it was sooo much fun. Partly I think because, even at waist high, Cemento is powerful. And partly too because this was it -- I was popping my Cemento cherry. Finally.

And even though the photos of Manong Boat...

Moro's LU Birthday Salubong

I had to be back in Manila by the next day so we did his birthday party the night before.

Gin, Brandy, Wine (for me, Angel and Marie), pusit, kinilaw, chicken and a long beach table = Moro's birthday salubong in LU.

Whatever was left over from the night before was used Sunday for his actual birthday.

Photos taken with an N95 and the Pentax Optio W30 both running on depleted batteries.

Yeah Yeah: soundtrack for the Baler long weekend

This is my official song for the last long weekend's trip to Baler. Sunshine, fun waves, great company and of course, the magic that can only be Baler's innate vibe. Whether it was just being happy to surf with friends (instead of bitching that the waves weren't as big as expected) or paddling back out along the shoulder of a wave that a friend is just about to drop on... or finally surfing a spot after seven years of watching it... the mood of this song encapsulated it all. It wasn't an epic trip but it was really steady and filled with good vibes.

Love, love, love...

Imaginary Friends

You are never too old to watch cartoons. That's a rule. If you've gotten to the point where 'toons don't do it for you... you need some help. Something precious has gone out of your life. Tsk, tsk.

Anyway, this is one of my faves: Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. And on their website, they have an app that allows to create (then print out) your own imaginary pal. Fun, fun,

Congratulations to 'Se and Sugar on getting hitched.
Congrats to my mom for keeping it together and pulling this off.
